You may have seen the recent Channel 4 series, My Transsexual Summer which ran for four episodes from 8 November – 29 November 2011.

Contrary to the impression created on the TV, the NHS almost always funds bilateral mastectomy and male chest reconstruction for trans men, and usually does so in a reasonably prompt manner. Refusals of the sort seemingly portrayed are very rare. Further, the clinicians in this clinic are always happy to help the patients appeal any PCT’s initial refusal, and those appeals are almost always successful.
