Carolyn Regan, Chief Executive of West London Mental Health Trust, commented on the Government’s recent announcement on NHS funding:
“The Prime Minister has announced a significant funding boost for the NHS. Timed to coincide with its 70th anniversary in July, the Government has committed to an extra £20bn a year for the NHS by 2023.
“This, clearly, is welcome news as is the commitment to agree a 10-year funding plan to ensure the necessary stability and resources so that we can, in turn, plan and deliver consistently high-quality care for patients.
“I attended a meeting this morning to hear more about the funding plan directly from the Prime Minister. We heard that the plan will include ambitious targets for mental health and a focus on mental wellbeing. The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of workforce engagement, including flexible jobs and opportunities for development, and called for an increased focus on innovation, technology and prevention. I look forward to hearing more details in due course.
“I also welcome the Government’s recent announcement about the removal of the cap on skilled worker (Tier 2) visas for doctors and nurses.”
