A huge congratulations to our Diversity and HR teams who won an award for ‘Most effective use of diversity to strengthen governance, recruitment or promotion’ at the Healthcare People Management Association (HPMA) Awards last night!

Maggie Morgan-Valentine, Programme Lead and Head of Diversity; Ali Webster, Assistant Director of Workforce; and Julie Menia, Diversity Coordinator, accepted the award for the Trust’s work on our BME Leadership Development Programme.

The judges remarked on the great board level engagement and commitment to the project and said the programme has helped to build “resilience, compassion, emotional intelligence and confidence’.

The BME Leadership Programme has gone from strength to strength and the judging panel were impressed by the measurable outcomes and change that has been achieved.

Maggie said: “I’m delighted to have received a national award for the BME Leadership Development Programme, in the ‘Most Effective Use of Diversity to Strengthen Governance, Recruitment or Promotion’ category of the HPMA awards. Its testament to the contribution of so many people over the years, and the hard work and commitment of our delegates. It is a privilege to have devised a programme that is having so many positive outcomes and I look forward to working on other interventions that will bring about positive outcomes for other communities in the future.”

The awards were held on Thursday 7 June 2018 at the Tower Hotel, London. Over 500 guests gathered to celebrate some of the inspiring achievements of HR teams across the UK and praise their hard work and commitment to making the NHS a great place to work.
