In its first year, One You Ealing – a primary care physical health service delivered by West London Mental Health NHS Trust – has seen a stream of successes, which has included setting over 2,000 quit dates through its ‘Smokefree Ealing’ initiative.
The national ‘One You’ campaign from Public Health England is designed to help people improve their health, and One You Ealing encourages Ealing residents to rethink their lifestyle choices through providing services such as a smoking cessation programme, community health checks, healthy walks and tuberculosis awareness sessions.
In addition to a 91% service user satisfaction rating, Smokefree Ealing has also achieved a 47% quit rate. Its Child Weight Management programme has also generated positive outcomes as 86% of children who completed the programme maintained or reduced their weight, as measured by their BMI Z-score, and 69.3% achieving these outcomes were from minority ethnic groups.
Health Walks, sub-contracted for delivery to Southall Community Alliance, saw 80% of participants rate the service as ‘good’ or ‘excellent.’ As well as this, out of the 800 blood pressure checks undertaken for Blood Pressure UK’s flagship ‘Know Your Numbers’ campaign, One You Ealing carried out 371 of these, nearly 50% of the total.
Johnny Nota, Service Manager for One You Ealing, said: “I am extremely satisfied to see that our work has produced some very important outcomes for residents in Ealing. We are targeting a broad range of people, many of whom strive to have a better quality of life, and the success of One You Ealing so far has given us a major confidence boost that we are making a difference to the health of the population.
“This is a truly community-based and personalised service that responds to the individual’s needs, and we hope to maintain One You Ealing’s success in its second year of operation too.”
With the on-going support of West London Mental Health NHS Trust, One You Ealing will continue to support Ealing residents to make better lifestyle choices.
