Applications for legal gender recognition require a general medical report which can be completed by your GP and a specialist medical report which must be completed by a specialist Chartered Psychologist, Psychiatrist or other medical Practitioner on the Gender Recognition Panel’s specialist register.

GIC clinicians registered with the Gender Recognition Panel will be able to provide a specialist Gender Recognition Report but only in a private capacity. West London Mental Health Trust does not include the provision of gender recognition reports within the NHS services at Charing Cross Gender Identity Clinic (CHX GIC) and NHS clinical and administrative time cannot be used for this purpose. The fee charged towards clinical and administrative costs is £50. There is no additional charge if further information is requested by the Gender Recognition Panel.

If you are applying for a specialist gender recognition report, please put your request in writing to a named GIC clinician on the Register. Please include:

  • Your name
  • Address
  • Date of birth
  • Hospital number (if known)
  • Details of any gender related surgery and/or adjustments in hormone therapy since last appointment
  • A cheque or postal order made payable to the clinician you are approaching for the report for £50.
  • Patients who attended and were discharged from Charing Cross Gender Identity Clinic prior to 1998 will also need to send in a copy of their GIC notes as we no longer have access to these. This is can be requested from The Data Protection Act Administrator on 0208 8461094/7243.

Please leave plenty of time when requesting your report as it can take up to 12 weeks to process from date of receipt of your application. Please note that the clinician you approach may allocate your report to a colleague to complete at times of high demand. It would be appreciated if you do not contact reception whilst waiting for the report as they do not deal with such enquiries.

If for any reason there has been a problem with your report, you will be contacted in writing.
