2011 was a fantastic year for mental health awareness. Together with pop/rock band, Storey, we held a competition for senior school students in years 10 and above.
Storey‘s latest single, Wander free, is about mental health recovery and we asked students to design the front cover. The competition finished at the end of May 2011, and the winner announced. Congratulations to Alina Khakoo from Notting Hill and Ealing High School. You can view her artwork, and the shortlisted artworks here.
The song and music video are out now. You can download the single on iTunes and view the music video below.

Artworks included painting, drawing, photography, collage and graphic design. Students needed to live or go to school in Ealing, Hounslow or Hammersmith and Fulham. The competition asked students to sign up to be a member of the trust (also receiving a range of benefits like NHS discounts – it’s free). Students supported our Open Minds campaign, and helped increase awareness of mental health issues, while reducing the stigma associated with mental illness.
We’re also happy to come out and chat to students and teachers at any time about mental wellbeing, certain mental illnesses, support services or another topic of your choice. Simply email member@wlmht.nhs.uk for more information. We’re out chatting to schools about it now - if you want us to come to yours, please let us know!
