We are redeveloping Broadmoor Hospital to create a modern, safe and secure setting that will help staff to provide the best care to our patients. The new hospital will open in 2018.
On average, patients stay at Broadmoor Hospital for five years. These improvements will help make sure that during this time, our staff can provide them with the best possible treatments, in surroundings which support therapy, encourage recovery and achieve the most effective outcomes.
Crowthorne residents visit new Broadmoor Hospital
Crowthorne community representatives returned to Broadmoor Hospital recently, to take a look around the brand new hospital site. This group toured the current hospital last December, when they were invited to look around the old Victorian buildings. Being able to bring them back to see the new hospital illustrated the stark differences in infrastructure, environment and facilities between the two settings and has been extremely beneficial.
The group were taken through the Entrance Building and shown the stringent security procedures staff and visitors will have to go through every time they enter the hospital’s secure perimeter. They were then shown around one of the ward buildings, before being taken to the Central Building, where all hospital therapies and activities will take place.
Designed to support the trust’s recently revised clinical model, this welcoming space will not only help encouraging patients to undertake the required 25 hours of meaningful activity each week, but where appropriate, also allow them more independent access to authorised areas within the site. Gaining these essential skills forms an important aspect of each patient’s recovery journey.
Latest on-site developments
Now, you can chart the new hospital’s progress through a series of images put together to keep you up to date with the project.
This month we look at both some internal patient areas, including therapy rooms and ward buildings.
